CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (June 19, 2026) — The Central City City Council has formally requested a state audit investigation following allegations involving roof repairs to city-owned buildings that were reportedly performed by former Mayor Tony Armour.

According to a press release issued Friday, council members became aware of the allegations shortly before Mayor Armour submitted his resignation. In response, the council convened a special meeting on June 18 to discuss the situation and determine next steps.

Council officials noted that Kentucky law limits discussion during special-called meetings to items specifically listed on the meeting notice. As a result, council members said they were unable to fully address questions from the public during Thursday's meeting.

In an effort to ensure transparency and accountability, the council has directed the city attorney to formally request an immediate investigation by the Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts. The audit will focus on the allegations related to the roof repairs and will also seek to determine whether any additional discrepancies exist within city operations.

City officials stated that any findings from the Auditor's Office will be made public once they are received and reviewed. “To avoid contributing to misinformation, the City Council will refrain from further public comment on the allegations until the investigation is complete,” the release stated.

The council is expected to hold another special meeting next week to formally approve the request for the state investigation and to appoint a new mayor to serve the remainder of Armour's unexpired term.

No details regarding the nature of the allegations were released Friday, and no findings have been made by state investigators at this time.

Councilman Shannon Coombs and Councilman David Higgs were listed as contacts for additional information.
