MADISONVILLE, Ky. (March 5, 2025) – Drivers on the Western Kentucky Parkway should prepare for extended lane closures and speed reductions as the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet begins a major bridge rehabilitation project next week.
Starting Tuesday, March 11, contractors will reduce the westbound Green River bridge at mile marker 65.7 to one lane. Crews from Intech Contracting, LLC will replace bridge railings and repair beams beneath the bridge deck, a process expected to continue through late May. Once work on the westbound bridge is completed, the same repairs will begin on the eastbound bridge.
During construction, traffic on each bridge will be restricted to a single 12-foot-wide lane, and the speed limit will be reduced to 60 mph. Overweight and over-dimensional vehicles will need to take alternate routes, including I-165, U.S. 60, the Audubon Parkway, and I-69.
The entire project is expected to wrap up by the end of August.
The Green River bridges, which carry more than 4,100 vehicles daily, were originally built in the 1960s during the construction of the Western Kentucky Parkway. The eastbound bridge was completed in 1963, followed by the westbound bridge in 1964.
Drivers are encouraged to stay updated on traffic conditions by visiting goky.ky.gov or following KYTC District 2 on Facebook for real-time updates.
