MUHLENBERG COUNTY, KY – Local leaders and renewable energy advocates gathered today in
Muhlenberg County to announce the launch of the Paradise Solar Project—a transformative clean energy initiative that honors the region’s legacy while building a more sustainable economic future.
“A project of this magnitude truly puts Muhlenberg County on the map for future opportunities,” said Ray Hagerman, Executive Director of the Muhlenberg County Growth Alliance. “We are excited to see the Paradise Solar Project take shape and look forward to the positive impact it will have on our community, both now and for generations to come. It's a bright step forward for Muhlenberg County."

Led by Kentucky-based Edelen Renewables and supported by the Muhlenberg Alliance for Growth and Economic Advancement (MEGA), the Paradise Solar Project represents a bold step forward in rural energy development. The project will generate 62.5 megawatts of solar power, enough to power approximately 5,300 homes annually, while also bringing significant job creation and investment to the region.
“This project is more than clean energy—it’s about writing a new chapter for Muhlenberg County,” said Adam Edelen, founder of Edelen Renewables. “For generations, this community powered America with coal. Today, with the Paradise Solar Project, it’s once again leading the way this time with renewable power that will fuel the future.”
The project is being developed in partnership with local landowners and will be built on reclaimed coal mining land, transforming once-extractive spaces into engines of clean energy and economic revitalization. The site sits just miles from the historic Paradise Power Plant, once a symbol of coal-fired power and now a landmark of transition.
"Developing new energy processes is critical for our community, our state, and our nation," said Judge Executive Mack MeGehee. "It’s being built on a former surface coal mine that I actually worked in back in 1978. After years in the coal mining industry, it’s meaningful to see this reclaimed land put to good use, developing clean energy that will feed into the grid."
Mayor of Central City Tony Armour said, “We’re always excited to welcome new economic opportunities to our community and we’re proud to be part of the meaningful progress happening here in Muhlenberg County."
